Another action packed issue of the series. We start the issue with Two-Face and Penguin each thinking the other is responsible for the Arkham breakout. They each decide that it is time to escalate their feud. We move quickly to Nightwing (with Damian) battling The Heavily Armored Batman (Jason Todd) .

Batman Battle For The Cowl Commissioner Gordon #1
Very good story that shows that Gordon can hold his own even without Batman as he takes out Mr. Freeze. Solid artwork and a good story. 3 out of 5 Batmen.

DC Comics has revealed the cover to Batman and Robin #1 the new ongoing series that will pick up after Battle for the Cowl. Featuring Art by Frank Quitely and written by Grant Morrison. No other news on the book at this time.

Action Comics #875
The first issue in the new direction for the title is a pretty solid one. The artwork looks very dynamic, and we find out the NIghtwing and Flamebird are on Earth to stop 6 Kryptonians that escaped the Phantom Zone. We also find out the secret ID of each Nightwing (Chris Kent) and Flamebird (Thara Ak-Var). 3 out of 5 Justice Leaguers.

The buildup from the previous two issues was wasted in the first 10 pages of the book. Onomatopoeia gets a head shot in at Batman and appears to kill him. The Joker is upset by this and states that he wanted to kill him.

Batman #685
The second part of the Hush storyline sees Hush captured and imprisoned in Wayne Tower by Nightwing and Robin. This should lead to Hush teaming up with Damian to take over all of Bruce Wayne’s life. Good story, decent artwork. 4 out of 5 Batmen. Put It On The Stack.

We start the final issue at the White House, where in a scene reminiscent of Watchmen, A man is holding a sign that says "The End Is Nigh". The President is being briefed on the red skies and other strange occurrences that have been happening. He asks to be left alone and the President reveals himself to be Superman. He then flies to meet this Earth’s Wonder Woman: Nubia. They find a craft that is breaking through the red skies and they comment that it contains heroes inside of it. The craft opens to reveal the Supermen of the Multiverse. Captain Marvel tells them that he is here to recruit the Supermen of the Multiverse on a misson of life or death. We then move to the JLA Watchtower where we see Power Girl, Starman and Frankenstein with dialogue that says that this is all that remains that is not Darkseid. It also talks of how the Metal Men from Earth 44 came through a dimension shard and went crazy from the magnetic field. We find out that the narrator for all of this is Lois Lane. She tells us that they are loading a rocket

As he proved while writing Batman the Animated Series, Paul Dini is a great storyteller, even when not writing Batman specifically. This issue is part one of a Hush two-part story and follows the fall and rise of Hush. For those who do not know, Hush is Dr. Tommy Elliot former childhood friend of Bruce Wayne, who has discovered his secret and is jealous that Bruce’s parents died and left him with all of the money, while his parents held him to Bruce’s standards. Last Rites Part 2 finishes up with Nightwing taking out the fake Two-Face. The art is a little uneven at times, but a decent conclusion to the story. 3 out of 5 Batmen.

We then cut away to Bruce Wayne in the back of the limo he was in last issue asking Alfred if he ever thought his life could have been more eventful.

The return of the Molten Man, but otherwise a really blah issue. This book needs a reboot. 2 out of 5 Spider-Villains.
Batman and the Outsiders #14
Nice story, good artwork, and the beginning of a new mission for the team. Also, the return of Azrael ?! 3 out of 5 Bat-Villains

The Gog saga continues as the JSA learns his true purpose and the real price of asking Gog for help. Solid issue, but a little slower moving than the past couple of parts. 3 out of 5 JSAers.
Terra #3
Terra goes to the center of the Earth to return home and find help for Geo-Force. Ok Issue, always enjoy Conner’s artwork. 2 out of 5 Batmen.

This is part one of the Last Rites storyline which presents a new take on some key moments in Batman’s history.This issue somehow ties into Final Crisis, the connection should become more apparent after issue 5 of FC is released. Alfred is supposedly behind the walk down memory lane and there are some great moments from some Silver Age stories that are highlighted here. There is also some comedy in the form of Alfred imagining what would have happened had another creature such as a snake or moth flown in the window instead of a Bat. Now onto some spoilers..

The Final Chapter of Batman RIP kicks off with Batman still trapped in a casket buried alive where he has a flashback about being poisoned and dialoguing about always being prepared for every situation. We then cut away to see Robin fighting Pierot and the Swagman. He is rescued by the League of International Batmen who decided to help out Batman. We then cut back to Dr. Hurt going into detail about how he will exhume Batman just about the time he is delusional from oxygen depravation and have his final bit of fun then.

Batgirl rushes to save Oracle from an assassination attempt by David Cain. Great book, wish Batgirl had a regular title again. 4 out of 5 Bat-Villains.
Brave and the Bold #19
The Phantom Stranger and Green Lantern team up to stop the destruction of a planet and possibly much more. Interesting issue. 3 out of 5 Green Lanterns.

War Machine and The Crimson Dynamo demolish a bunch of Skrull ships. Lots of explosions. 2 out of 5 New Avengers.

Red Robin is unmasked and Anarky reigns by the end of the issue. Solid Writing and Art. 4 out of 5 Batmen.

When this issue first started out I was having a hard time figuring out exactly how this was going to tie into the Batman RIP storyline. Killer Croc is involved in a fight at Penguin’s Iceberg Club. Then Man-Bat arrives and takes on some Intergang thugs at the same club. Batgirl arrives and tells him that she needs his help. We then cut to a scene of Vigilante invading Intergang’s club and killing a bunch of their members. Spoiler is there also and fights him until Batgirl arrives and tells them she needs their help. This is where the story actually becomes interesting and some Batman RIP storyline points are hinted at. Batgirl goes into the Batcave and starts viewing files to put together a team of characters including the Riddler, Spoiler, Wildcat and others that each possess an aspect of Batman in hopes of replacing him with a group, since no one character can replace him. Alfred arrives and notices that Nightwing is not on the list and suggests that she talk to him. Batgirl avoids that and leaves and we see Nightwing in the cave stating that they will have a talk. The real interesting part of the book is the DC Nation page that has a bunch of spoilers for the Batman line.

Zero out of 5 Spider-Villains. Just like the Black Cat this issue is bad news.

A simply stunning book artwork wise. Great origin on how Super-Man KC made it to Earth 1. 5 out of 5 Dark JLAers.
