The final issue of the series lives up to the earlier parts in that it is interesting in most aspects but does leave a decent amount of loose ends to be followed up in the various new Bat series that are spinning out of it. We start off with Nightwing

giving orders to the Network of heroes that has come together to find out who is behind all of the chaos in Gotham.  He then heads off to find Robin, while internally monologueing, to let the readers know that the reason he had refused to be Batman up until this time was that Bruce told him not to become Batman. We then hop to a quick scene that shows Commissioner Gordon discussing the chaos with his squad. He says that this was a message to show that he lost Gotham and that Two-Face was going to be running things.  Another quick scene change, to the Batcave where Damian is trying to escape, while he is still injured. Alfred calls in the Squire to help and gives Damian a Robin costume and tells him it is time for him to earn his keep. Another scene change shows Jason Todd unmasking and checking the pulse of Tim Drake. Satisfied that he has killed him , he smiles maniacally and drags the body off. A cut again to show a TV report stating the the Blackhawks are on the look out for Two-Face and that they have already captured the Penguin. We then see that the owner of the TV is the new Black Mask and he is holding the head mask in his hands and says we did it. Another scene change to show Two-Face saying he has to leave Gotham and killing one  of his men. Back to the main story and Nightwing has finally arrived at Jason’s Batcave. Once there he looses contact with Oracle and sees a flaming message in the shape of the Bat symbol saying  he is too late. Jason continues to taunt Dick with the fact that he killed Tim and then they start to battle. Dick shows Jason the hologram message from Bruce and it drives him further over the edge. We have a quick divergence to show Damian and Squire also finding the cave and finding a boat down there. Back to the battle and Jason continues to taunt Dick with his killing of Tim and distracts him long enough to hit him with Scarecrow’s fear toxin. We then move scene, to show Tim alive and trying to escape while badly injured. Quick cut back to the Jason/Dick battle and Jason decides to blow the entire cave up. Another quick cut back to show Damian and Squire saving Tim. Then its Jason vs Dick round 2 as they fight more and Dick takes the cowl off of Jason. He then uses it to bluff, Jason and hits him knocking him off the bridge and Jason falls to the river below after refusing help. We then get another monologue about how Jason could have been helped, but refused to see his destiny. We then get an image of Damian as Robin and a quick close up Batman Animated style of Dick as Batman. Overall a good, solid issue both writing and artwork wise by Daniel. It could have been a little more clear at the end as to who is in the suit, but it is easy to figure out based on the monologue that Dick has decided it is his destiny to become the new Batman. Overall this issue earns 4 out of 5 Batmen.

Put It On The Stack.
