We start out this issue with a quick glimpse at Morgana La Fey as she is looking for Dr. Doom to settle a score with him. She sees Doom with Norman Osborne. We then cut to the group picture of the Avengers. We see
Captain Marvel, Sentry, Ms. Marvel, Iron Patriot, Ares , Wolverine, Hawkeye, and Spider-Man. We then go through a series of flashbacks that reveal how this team was put together. We see Osborne bringing in Victoria Hand as his deputy director, firing Maria Hill, and bringing Bullseye in to the office and telling him that they are going to Avengers Tower. We then see that he had a meeting with Ms. Marvel where she resigned rather than be a part of any team that he would lead, even though Ares and the Sentry have agreed to stay on. Osborne then goes to Thunderbolt Mountain and tells Moonstone that she is the new Ms. Marvel. He then goes to Venom and after feeding him a Skrull he gives him a serum that allows him to control his his form. This formula turns him into a near duplicate for Spider-Man in the black outfit. Osborne then calls in Daken to a diner in the middle of nowhere to offer him the job of Wolverine. He then lets Marvel Boy out of his cell and offers him the job of Captain Marvel. After assembling his team, Osborne mentions that there still seems to be something missing. He has called in the Iron Man foe the Ghost to open a door that he can not get into. Behind it are several dozen Iron Man suits. The story shifts back for a quick minute to show Dr. Doom landing and being attacked by Morgana La Fey. The final scene of the book takes us back to the reveal of the Avengers team as the leader Iron Patriot is revealed to be Norman Osborne. Very good first issue with some nice artwork and a fairly good story. It gets 4 out of 5 New Avengers.
Put It On The Stack.
