Flash #247 -Final Issue

  The title goes out with a whimper as the JLA helps Wally bring Linda back to life and save the kids. After that he decides to retire with them and enjoy life. Bring on the return of Barry Allen. 1 out of 5 Flashes.

Reign In Hell # 6 (of 8)

  All out war as we see Lobo vs Zatanna, Dr. Fate vs Lady Blaze and a fight to the death between Lord Satannus and Neron. You can tell from the cover who wins. Fun issue. 3 out of 5 Metal Men.

Featured Book :

New Avengers #48

  The beginning of Dark Reign brings about another status quo change for the New Avengers as the team adds the new Captain America to their ranks, and Iron Fist takes a leave of absence. Bendis wrote a very intriguing tale this time around. Normally not much happens in this book as we are usually stuck with a bunch of talking heads, or flashbacks or side stories. This was a very enjoyable read with some nice artwork as well. Their is one other major story point and the is that Luke Cage is now ready to work for Norman Osborn in order to find his missing child. This could be a very intriguing storyline if played correctly. Overall this book earns 4 out of 5 New Avengers.

We pick up the story with a montage of Batman and Talia Al Ghul the night that Damian was conceived and continuing with Batman vs Ras AL Ghul , Batman Vs a Shark saving Commisioner Gordon and more with Talia. We then cut away to Bruce Wayne in the back of the limo he was in last issue asking Alfred if he ever thought his life could have been more eventful.

DC has just released the teaser image for Battle of the Cowl and just like previous DC teasers it supposedly holds clues to the direction and storyline for the upcoming books. Enjoy.

Based on the picture from issues 1 and  2 we seem to have the following members:

Iron Patriot who will more than likely be Norman Osborn

Spider-Man (Black) obviously Venom from the Thunderbolts

Hawkeye more than likely Bullseye from the Thunderbolts

Ms Marvel looks to be Moonstone from the Thunderbolts

Ares is Ares from the Mighty Avengers

Marvel Boy is the alternate dimension one from Secret Invasion

Wolverine will be Daken Wolverine’s Son

These appear to be the best guesses at who the new team members are.

A very quick review summary this week, since today brings new books.

Amazing Spider-Man #581

  The return of the Molten Man, but otherwise a really blah issue. This book needs a reboot. 2 out of 5 Spider-Villains.

Batman and the Outsiders #14

  Nice story, good artwork, and the beginning of a new mission for the team. Also, the return of Azrael ?! 3 out of 5 Bat-Villains

Amazing Spider-Man #580

  Spider-Man battles the Blank, in a done in one fairly uneventful story. The art by Lee Weeks is a big improvement for the book. 3 out of 5 Spider-Villains.

Astonishing X-Men Ghost  Boxes #2 (of 2 )

  2 more alternate reality stories, including a Cyclops suicide story. Still not worth the $3.99 for only 16 pages of story, but more interesting than the first part. 2 out of 5 X-Men.

Action Comics #872 New Krypton Part 7

  Metallo and Reacton kill some Kryptonians, Luthor takes over Brainiac and unleashes his robots, and the Creature Commandos return. Great artwork, Great story. 4 out of 5 Batmen.

  The helmut sold for $100,000. Imagine how much the rest of the body could get.

Heath Ledger Joker Playing Card

  These were reportedly left all over the streets of Chicago after filming was done. It sold for $3500 and I know realize that I should have been hanging out downtown during the filming.

Luke Skywalker’s Lightsaber sold at auction yesterday for $200,000. Add in the buyer’s premium of 20 % and it comes out to $240,000. It was one of a number of movie and television items that were auctioned off by the Profiles in History Auction House. I have some other notable sales below as well as a part 2 to of more items coming out in a little bit.

  This only went for $75,000.

This issue starts us off with Emma Frost receiving a letter inviting her to Avengers Mansion for a meeting with Norman Osborn. Dr. Doom is already there once she arrives and then we have the obligatory solo entrance where  everyone has their own introduction. For a moment I thought I was watching the WWE. Guy Garderner and Kyle Raynor show up to reveal that Kraken is actually Granny Goodness reborn. She starts to drain the central power battery in order to give all the power of the Green Lanterns to Darksied.

Doctor Who The Forgotten #4

  Martha and the Doctor fight the Spiders as he gains back more of his memory and we get flashbacks to the Doctor defending Peri and Ace and the Doctor fighting aliens and blowing things up. 4 out of 5 Metal Men.

Necronomicon #3

A history lesson on the Necronomicon and the creation of a device that allows the unseen to be seen and the true nature of things to be revealed. 2 out of 5 Zombies.

Justice Society of America #21

  The Gog saga continues as the JSA learns his true purpose and the real price of asking Gog for help. Solid issue, but a little slower moving than the past couple of parts. 3 out of 5 JSAers.

Terra #3

Terra goes to the center of the Earth to return home and find help for Geo-Force. Ok Issue, always enjoy Conner’s artwork. 2 out of 5 Batmen.

  Mark Waid finishes up the two part Shocker tale with a team-up, a betrayal, and the almost reunion of J. Jonah Jameson and his father. Much better artwork in this issue. 4 out of 5 Spider-Villains.

Cable #9

  Cable Versus the Cockroach Humans and Bishop takes out the X-Men. Nice pacing, very smooth artwork. 3 out of 5 X-Villains.

The final chapter in Secret Invasion picks up where issue 7 left off. The Wasp is about to explode and she sacrifices herself to save everyone else. This aggravates the heroes and villains and they mount a final offensive against the Skrulls. Wolverine is about to go in for the kill on the Skrull Queen, when Norman Osborn fires a shot that takes her head off.  Luckily for him there were news cameras everywhere that captured this.

This is part one of the Last Rites storyline which presents a new take on some key moments in Batman’s history.This issue somehow ties into Final Crisis, the connection should become more apparent after issue 5 of FC is released.  Alfred is supposedly behind the walk down memory lane and there are some great moments from some Silver Age stories that are highlighted here.  There is also some comedy in the form of Alfred imagining what would have happened had another creature such as a snake or moth flown in the window instead of a Bat.  Now onto some spoilers..
